Couple attempt suicide after family rejection

Two young lovers, who want to marry but was rejected by their families, planned to commit suicide by lying on the train tracks near Laiyang city in East China's Shandong province on Feb 5, 2012, the local Qilu Evening News reported.

The driver was able to stop the train using his emergency brakes when he saw the two people sitting on the tracks 100 meters ahead. Hearing the train's whistle, the woman pushed her boyfriend off the track, then fled, police said.

The couple told police that their families opposed their marriage because the woman is 5 years older.
