Construction on a railway with an investment of 2.3 billion yuan ($36 million) in Northeast China’s Jilin province has been suspended recently, Xinhua reported.

The construction was allegedly subcontracted to a “fake” company run by labor workers who “know nothing about railway construction”. The bridge piers which should have been made with concrete were instead allegedly made with rubble under the supervision of engineering project supervisors, creating a great security risk.

An investigation team has been formed by China Railway No 9 Group Co Ltd to probe the matter, according to its official, Zhao Tiejun.

The 74.1 kilometers long railway, which is located in Jingyu county and Songjiang county in Jilin province, was approved by the Ministry of Railways in 2009 and was undertaken by Shenyang Railway Bureau.
