Beijing public election catches people's eyes

Beijing's public election for leading officials attracted as many as 670,000 clicks on its application website as of 6:00 pm Wednesday, the first day of its application, with some of the IP addresses from 52 foreign countries including the US, Japan and England, the Beijing Times reported Thursday.

Only online applications are accepted for this year's public elections. As of 8:30 am Wednesday, the website has received 450,000 page views, and more than 1,400 people have signed in as applicants, said Yuan Fang, head of the Beijing G&G Human Resource Development Center.

The service line for the public election ran wild with calls a day before applications opened, with more than 300 calls came in as of 10:00 am Wednesday.
