SEOUL: South Korea's Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corp. (SMRT) announced Tuesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China Bridge Capital to export its platform screen door (PSD) technology to the Chinese city of Chongqing, allowing the South Korean company to oversee the whole implementation of the system in the Chinese city's subway line.
Under the agreement, the SMRT will support the whole process of manufacturing, operating, and maintaining the PSD system in Chongqing, which has one subway line passing through 18 stations, and four additional metro lines under construction now.
"This deal carries significant meanings as our advanced technology was recognized by an overseas market, which will open up future opportunities for us as well," the SMRT said in a statement.
Chongqing is one of the four largest cities in China, located in the western part of the country, with a population of about 32 million.
The SMRT runs the Seoul metropolitan subway's lines five to eight, and completed building the PSD system in all lines using its own technology last year.
