Famous Chinese actress Li Bingbing is named the ambassador for the “Million Forest Project” on Thursday afternoon in Beijing. Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, representing The Climate Group, presented the celebrity with a certificate.

The climate change project, aiming to lower the CO2 emission by planting millions of sea-buckthorn trees in the northwestern part of China, kicks off on the same day. For 5 yuan RMB, one can adopt a tree and donate the plant to farmers in the less developed regions of China.

According to scientists, one tree can absorb up to 1.66 kg of CO2 in one year and Li Bingbing donated 10,000 yuan to the project to eliminate the CO2 that is produced by her taking airplanes in 2009.

Tony Blair and Li Bingbing both gave a short speech at the news conference.
