The explosion occurred on December 1 in an illegal explosives workshop, leaving four dead on the spot in Anjiagetai Village, Sanjiao Town, Linxian County of Luliang City in Shanxi.

Gao Haiyu and his wife Hou Yuanjun, who turned themselves in on Monday, confessed to the police that they had provided the venue for making detonators, a city police spokesman said.

Another main suspect is also in custody and the police is hunting other accomplices, he said declining to name the suspect and reveal the number of the remaining suspects.

Investigation shows that illegal manufacturing of detonators caused the blast, the spokesman said.

Luliang City's police have confiscated a large amount of explosives in a crackdown since December 1, he said without giving further details.
