China will accelerate eliminating production overcapacity and boost mergers and acquisitions, the Gungzhou Daily reported Friday, citing comments from Zhu Hongren, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Relevant policies have been drafted, calling for opinions and advice from other ministries and will later be presented to the State Council, China's cabinet for approval, according to Zhu.

Xiong Bilin, an official from the National Development and Research Commission of the State Council, China's economic planning body, said earlier that the policies would come out by the end of this year.

Industries such as steel, cement, plate glass, coal-chemical, polycrystalline silicon and windpower equipment, which have severe production overcapacity will face stricter approval requirements in land usage, financial aid and environmental protection, Zhu said.
