BEIJING: China's auto sales figure in August is expected to exceed 1 million units for the sixth consecutive month, a senior official of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said Monday.

Zhu Yiping, assistant to CAAM's secretary general, said the country's policies to stimulate auto purchasing helped create more sales in August, which is traditionally a low season for auto sales.

Sales of China's domestically made automobiles totaled 1.09 million units in July, up 63.57 percent compared with the same period of last year.

The country's auto sales over the January-July period climbed to 7.18 million units, up 23.38 percent year on year.

Zhu said sales in the first eight months would exceed 8 million units and there is no doubt that full-year sales should hit 10 million units this year.

Nationwide there were 629,000 units sold in August last year, the worst monthly sales of the year.

The association is to announce official sales figure for August on Tuesday.
