Brief bio of Chen Liangyu

October 1946: Born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

1963-1968: Student at the Architecture Department of the PLA Institute of Logistics Engineering, majoring in architecture.

1968-1970: Soldier in PLA army unit No. 6716.

1970-1983: Worker, designer and deputy section chief of infrastructure at Shanghai Pengpu Machinery Factory. Also studied at the Structural Engineering Department of Tongji University from Feb.1979 to Jan. 1980.

1983-1984: Deputy director of Shanghai Pengpu Machinery Factory.

1984-1985: Secretary of the CPC Committee of Shanghai Electrical Appliances Corporation.

1987-1992: Deputy Party secretary and head of Huangpu District, Shanghai. Studied at the School of Public Policy, Birmingham University, UK, between Jan. 1992 and Sept. 1992.

1992: Deputy secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

1992-1996: Deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

1996-2001: Deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and vice-mayor of Shanghai

2001-2002: Deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and acting mayor of Shanghai.

2002: Shanghai secretary of the Communist Party of China, alternate member of the 15th CPC Central Committee, and member of the 16th CPC Central Committee and its Political Bureau.
