July export volume up 8.8% in HK

HONG KONG -- The volume of total exports of goods increased by 8.8 percent for July over a year earlier, while the volume of imports of goods increased by 8.5 percent, Hong Kong's Census & Statistics Department announced Tuesday.

Statistics showed that the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods for the month increased by 9.2 percent, while domestic exports decreased by 7.9 percent. Total export volume to the mainland recorded a double-digit increase of 13.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

The total volume of exports to the United States, Germany and India increased by 1.8 percent, 0.6 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively, for the month compared to a year earlier, while the volume of exports to Japan decreased by 8.6 percent.

Comparing the first seven months with the same period in 2012, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods increased by 4.2 percent, whereas that of domestic exports decreased by 7.6 percent. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods increased by 4 percent, while the volume of imports of goods increased by 5.1 percent for the same period.
