FISE World Series Shanghai opens with 180,000 sqm free-access waterfront sports carnival
The 2026 West Bund urban sports carnival & FISE World Series Shanghai kicked off at the Xuhui West Bund on Thursday.
Running through Oct 18, the event adopts a free-entry model for the first time, with its venue expanded from 70,000 to 180,000 square meters stretching over 800 meters of waterfront, blending professional competition, street culture and urban public space into an inclusive sports gala for all.
Song Yulin, general manager of Hurricane Group Asia Pacific, noted the biggest breakthrough is the shift from a relatively closed professional competition to an urban sports carnival open to everyone. The expanded venue provides the hardware foundation for public access, and lowering the entry threshold allows audiences to enjoy a full experience of watching, interaction and leisure on site.
