Chinese swimming phenom Yu Zidi named women's MVP at Asian Games
"I will continue to train hard, challenge myself, and strive for further breakthroughs," Yu said. "I hope to work with young athletes from across Asia to create more exciting competitions and inspire more young people to love and participate in sports, especially swimming."
Boonson, 20, also produced a record-breaking campaign, winning the men's 100m and 200m titles and taking silver in the mixed 4x100m relay.
He clocked 9.90 seconds in the 100m final after setting a Games record of 9.91 in the semifinals. In the 200m, he won in 19.88, tying the Asian record set by China's Xie Zhenye in 2019.
Yu's honor came as China finished atop the gold-medal standings for a 12th consecutive Asian Games. The Chinese delegation collected 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze medals for a total of 341, with its gold-medal tally setting a record for China at an Asian Games held outside the country.
China's previous best overseas haul was 165 gold medals at the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
