Teen sensation makes a splash on Asian Games debut, as China racks up six swimming golds

In the men's 100m freestyle, Pan Zhanle took gold, while teammate Zhang Zhanshuo finished fourth.

Tang Qianting won the women's 50m breaststroke in 29.45 seconds, also setting a new Asian Games record. Teammate Yang Chang claimed bronze.

Yet another Games record fell when 31-year-old veteran Xu Jiayu won the the men's 100m backstroke gold in 51.98 seconds.

China also claimed gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay in 3:33.10 to set a new Asian mark. The quartet of Yu Yiting, Zhang Yufei, Cheng Yujie and Wu Qingfeng finished 3.49 seconds ahead of the runners-up, further lowering the record of 3:33.96 set by China at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

In the men's 200m individual medley, 32-year-old veteran Wang Shun, the Asian record-holder, took bronze, while Japan cruised to the gold and silver medals.

For Yu, the youngest member of China's swimming team at the Games, the victory marked another milestone in a rapid rise that has drawn attention across the world of swimming with her international performances over the past two years.

At last year's world championships, Yu finished fourth in both the women's 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley, competing alongside some of the world's leading swimmers.
