China donates far-side lunar sample to UN, stresses peaceful governance of outer space

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun on Tuesday said China's donation of the lunar sample collected from the far side of the moon to the United Nations demonstrates its firm support for the UN and multilateralism, as well as its commitment as a major country to the peaceful use of outer space and improved global space governance.

Guo made the remarks at a daily news briefing after China donated a lunar sample collected by its Chang'e 6 mission to the UN at a handover ceremony on Monday in Vienna.

Guo stressed that China looks forward to working with all countries to uphold international law anchored on the Outer Space Treaty, follow the important principle of exploring and using outer space for peaceful purposes, and oppose the weaponization of outer space.

China calls for joint efforts to promote space scientific and technological achievements to better benefit all humanity, making outer space a platform for win-win cooperation, he said.
