Wuhan historic quarter balances heritage conservation and tourism

Conservation monitoring has also expanded alongside the growth. By January 2026, 12 key historic buildings had been equipped with monitoring devices to detect structural changes, while additional sensors monitor risks including fire and flooding.

The renewal effort aims to accommodate rising tourism and commercial activity while preserving the quarter's historic streetscape and residential character.
