"I remember a veteran said to me, 'when I die, could you take my ashes back home and bury them beside my parents, so I can be reunited with them?' I hope more veterans who went to Taiwan can return to their birthplace and reunite with their loved ones," said Liu Te-wen, a compatriot who over the past 23 years has helped bring the ashes of 460 veterans from Taiwan back to their hometowns on the Chinese mainland.
