"I did a very small act of kindness to thank China. Look what has come of it," said Ronald Sakolsky during his visit to Yin Yuzhen's house in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Aug 24, 2026.

Back in 1999, while teaching in Luoyang, Sakolsky was moved by Yin's story of fighting desertification and donated $5,000 for the cause. She used the money to plant 50,000 trees which have since grown into a towering forest in the Maowusu sandy area.
