China's C919 passenger jet's high-altitude variant completed its first flight test on Wednesday, marking an important step in the development of the C919 aircraft family.

The first variant conducted its flight test at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and completed all scheduled test-flight tasks.

The high-altitude variant is based on the standard C919, but incorporates targeted design changes — including a shortened fuselage and improvements to system functions — to meet requirements for high-altitude operations, according to a China Central Television report.

Under China's civil aviation regulations, airports at elevations of 2,438 meters or above are classified as high-altitude airports.
