"The true value of medical big data lies not in its volume but in its credibility and quality, as artificial intelligence reshapes healthcare", said Gao Xuecheng, secretary of the commission for discipline inspection of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, at the Digital and Intelligent Health Forum during the 2026 World Internet Conference Digital Silk Road Development Forum in Xi'an, on July 22.

Gao noted that the hospital now houses two national medical centers – one for respiratory diseases and another for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Last year, the National Health Commission approved establishing a key laboratory for clinical big data standardization and integrated application.

The hospital has built a research platform pooling nearly 40 million medical records from over 5 million patients, along with 60-plus disease-specific databases and over 10 real-time structured databases.

Using high-quality data, the hospital developed disease-specific AI models powered by DeepSeek, LLaMa and Qwen, now deployed in community health centers for case analysis, report interpretation, medication guidance and documentation.

"One who lifts alone finds it hard to rise; many walking together make progress easier," Gao said. He made the remark while announcing an AI and big data association and a joint Digital Health Innovation Institute with industry partners to build a collaborative ecosystem.
