Porsche's pop-up in Beijing destination for sports car enthusiasts
Porsche's first pop-up in Beijing, which opened last week, is attracting an influx of fans and visitors, marking a new chapter in the German sports car maker's experiential retail strategy in China.
Building on the success of its first Asian pop-up in Shanghai, the new space expands the brand's immersive brand format with enhanced personalization, cultural storytelling and community engagement, positioning itself as a new urban destination for sports car enthusiasts.
"Heritage is deeply embedded in Porsche's DNA; it defines who we are while driving our continuous evolution," said Alexander Pollich, president and CEO of Porsche China. He added that 2026 marks two important milestones: 75 years of Porsche motorsport and 25 years of Porsche in China.
"Through this space in Beijing, we are pleased to bring our sports car heritage, racing spirit, craftsmanship and lifestyle philosophy into the city's cultural landscape.
"We look forward to strengthening connections with enthusiasts and younger customers, and building meaningful resonance between Porsche's brand spirit and Beijing's urban vitality," he said.
Located south of Qihao Center by the Liangma River, the pop-up sits within a vibrant environment that blends international urban character with local cultural energy.
The design concept draws inspiration from Porsche's factory and customization center in Zuffenhausen, Germany, combining vintage industrial aesthetics with contemporary bespoke experience to create an immersive spatial narrative.
The Beijing pop-up is centered on motorsport heritage and customization culture.
Through carefully curated materials, installations and consultation spaces, visitors are guided through a journey that connects Porsche's racing DNA with its bespoke design philosophy.
A key highlight of the experience is the recreation of the Sonderwunsch Manufaktur atmosphere, where customers are invited to explore materials, engage with experts and participate in the creative process of designing personalized sports cars.
Two rotating themes structure the experiential narrative of the space. The opening theme, "There Is No Substitute", focuses on Porsche's emotional identity and brand values, while the second theme, "Raceborn", highlights its motorsport heritage.
The rotating format ensures the space remains dynamic, continuously refreshing the visitor experience.
Spanning approximately 600 square meters across two floors, the pop-up is structured around a clear thematic journey that integrates heritage, design and performance on the ground floor, and customization on the upper level.
The ground floor has three core zones. The Heritage area showcases the 356 B 1600S Roadster alongside archival images from the early Gmund workshop, reflecting the brand's 78-year sports car legacy and craftsmanship tradition.
The Design area features the new 911 Carrera GTS, displayed with iconic design elements such as the 930 Turbo whale-tail spoiler, a 911 GT3 soundbar and a Rimowa collaboration suitcase, highlighting Porsche's design language.
The Performance area presents the Cayenne Turbo Coupe Electric, the most powerful production Porsche to date. It demonstrates electrified performance capability, complemented by community imagery that reflects the emotional dimension of driving culture.
Connecting the two floors is a sculptural DNA helix installation made from GT rear spoilers across generations, symbolizing Porsche's continuous pursuit of performance excellence.
The upper floor is dedicated to bespoke customization, recreating elements of the Sonderwunsch Manufaktur in Asperg.
Visitors are invited to sketch and design their own sports cars in this immersive environment.
At the entrance, an ash-wood frame inspired by the Porsche 356 is surrounded by suspended design sketches, creating a cross-temporal creative atmosphere.
A 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet in Smyrna Green serves as the "hero car", embodying the Sonderwunsch philosophy and acting as the starting point of the customization journey.
A striking PTS Key Wall formed by more than 200 Porsche keys spelling "911" visualizes the breadth of Paint to Sample color options, expressing the message:"You dream it. We build it."
The Sonderwunsch Wardrobe presents a wide range of physical material samples, including leather, wood, metal finishes, fabrics and stitching threads, enabling visitors to have a tactile exploration similar to a haute couture atelier.
A private consultation room, illuminated by a chandelier inspired by the classic Fuchs wheel, allows customers to engage with consultants or connect directly with Porsche experts in Germany to explore bespoke configurations.
Beyond its interior spaces, the pop-up extends into the surrounding urban environment through architectural and lifestyle integration.
The facade combines red brick referencing the Zuffenhausen factory with glass surfaces reflecting the skyline along the Liangma River, while the Pasha pattern — derived from racing checkered flags — is reinterpreted in architectural form.
An outdoor PTS Color Staircase transforms the stepped riverside landscape into a color matrix, with "BEIJING" prominently displayed at its center, embedding Porsche's customization culture into a public space.
In collaboration with Grid Coffee, the Carrera Cafe introduces a themed beverage experience that blends motorsport culture with everyday coffee rituals, complemented by a skyline installation outlined with Porsche model names.
Beyond physical design and experience, the pop-up also serves as a community platform, said Porsche.
Porsche has long cultivated a passionate user community in China, and the Beijing pop-up extends this engagement beyond vehicles and exhibitions into shared experiences and social interaction.
It functions as a gathering point for enthusiasts through events, meetups and creative activities, strengthening emotional bonds between the brand and its audience.
Looking ahead, the pop-up is expected to serve as a lasting cultural platform in Beijing, reinforcing Porsche's commitment to combining heritage, innovation and community engagement in the Chinese market.
