US launches fresh attacks on Iran

The United States launched a fresh attack on Iran on Friday just one day after Tehran struck a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, the latest sign that the fragile ceasefire between the two countries is breaking apart.

In a statement, US Central Command said that "US forces conducted strikes against Iran on June 26, as a powerful response to yesterday's attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz."

However, Iran's action is believed to have been triggered by Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon. On Thursday, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz once more as a result of the strikes in Lebanon.
