Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira held the fifth China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-Level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue in Beijing on Monday, with both sides pledging to strengthen multilateral coordination and jointly advance reform of the global governance system.

Wang said China and Brazil have maintained close cooperation on the international stage and demonstrated their sense of responsibility, becoming important forces for stability and development in today's world.

With changes unseen in a century accelerating and the international community increasingly longing for peace and stability, reform of the global governance system should be placed on the agenda as soon as possible, he said.

Wang called on the two sides to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continue to deepen the building of a China-Brazil community with a shared future, and jointly withstand external challenges.

The two countries should build greater synergy in advancing their respective modernization processes and strengthening unity and self-reliance among Global South countries, while providing greater certainty for a turbulent world, he added.

Wang said China appreciates the Brazilian government's long-standing adherence to the one-China principle, and supports Brazil in safeguarding its national sovereignty, maintaining independence and pursuing greater development.

He called for stronger communication and coordination under multilateral mechanisms including the United Nations and BRICS, active efforts to advance the four global initiatives, and joint efforts to promote a fairer and more equitable global governance system, safeguard world peace and stability, and defend the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

China has always been a reliable friend of Latin American and Caribbean countries, and stands ready to work with Brazil and other countries in the region to further deepen China-LAC cooperation, Wang said.

Vieira said Brazil has always adhered to the one-China principle and looks forward to consolidating strategic mutual trust with China, deepening practical cooperation, strengthening public support for bilateral relations and achieving common prosperity.

Brazil is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination with China, jointly advance reform of the global governance system, uphold the authority of the UN and promote international fairness and justice, he said.

The two sides also held comprehensive and in-depth strategic communication on international and regional issues of common concern, and reached broad consensus.
