Lee Jae-myung meets Chinese vice-premier

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Wednesday met with Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng at the presidential office in Seoul. The Chinese vice-premier noted that the heads of state of China and South Korea have conducted reciprocal visits since the end of last year, leading the bilateral relations into a new stage of improvement and development. For his part, Lee said that exchanges and cooperation between South Korea and China in various fields, including economy and people-to-people exchanges, have remained active recently. During the visit, He Lifeng also met with South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yuncheol on Tuesday. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

UGANDA

Museveni sworn in for 7th term as president

Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni was sworn in on Tuesday as president for another five-year term at a ceremony in the capital, Kampala. In his inaugural address, the 81-year-old president said his government would continue implementing wealth-creation programs to lift people out of poverty. He also called on African countries to strengthen regional markets such as the East African Community, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and the African Continental Free Trade Area. It is Museveni's seventh five-year term since Uganda's general elections in 1996. He was declared the winner of the January general election after securing more than 70 percent of the votes.
