In China's Chaotan One, carbon dioxide is squeezed into a weird in-between state — part liquid, part gas — then sent racing through sealed pipes, turning wasted industrial heat into electricity. Now in commercial operation in Liupanshui, Guizhou province, this supercritical CO2 power tech has taken its first leap forward from the lab to being used in the real world.
