Dozen players advance through Volvo China Open Qualifying in Shanghai
Among the non-Chinese mainland players competing for the three spots available, Shen, who was three shots behind the leaders going into the final round, also booked his second-straight appearance at the championship through qualifying with a round featuring five birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey six at the 488-yard sixth hole.
"I was so nervous (on the 18th hole). I hit my pitching wedge 138 yards downwind (on the approach), so I need to choke down and make a half swing. I hit it good and I made the 16-foot putt. I am so happy with that. The front nine, the three birdie putts (on holes four, five and seven) all came from three feet so my irons feel pretty good this week," the 22-year-old said. Last year, he missed the cut at Enhance Anting when he went 69-78.
"It's a tough course because of the wind. I just need to keep the ball down, take the spin out and focus on my game. (Last year) I played pretty good my first round. I think I was two-under and top-20, and then the second round I hit something like seven-over. But that's motivation for this year. Let's go."
