Declaration on global wind energy cooperation released at a conference in Shantou
A declaration on global wind energy cooperation was released during an industrial conference in Shantou, Guangdong province, on Thursday, further clarifying the consensus on accelerating the construction of the wind power industry and supply chains.
The declaration, released during the 22nd World Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition, also agreed to establish a permanent global wind power cooperation dialogue mechanism in Shantou, providing a long-term communication bridge for the sustainable development of the industry.
The wind energy sector must grow robustly across the globe, as such growth offers great opportunities for the entire wind industry, according to the declaration, calling for an urgent need to expand manufacturing capacities worldwide.
The conference was held in Beijing and Shanghai in 2004 and 2014, respectively. Shantou, a coastal city in eastern Guangdong, has grown into a major wind energy base in recent years in China.
Leveraging its advantages in large-scale offshore wind power projects, Shantou has built an offshore wind power full industry chain ecosystem, with the construction of an offshore wind energy equipment manufacturing industrial park already completed in 2024.
Clean energy provider Goldwind Sci & Tech Co Ltd began its production in Shantou in November last year, with the first 22 MW offshore unit rolling off the production line.
During the conference, two major projects, including a comprehensive service base for new energy enterprises going global and the World Wind Energy Academy, were launched in Shantou, aiming to inject new momentum into global wind power industry cooperation and talent development.
