Chongqing-Guizhou power interconnection project gets approval
The Chongqing-Guizhou Power Interconnection Project, an initiative designed to enhance power grid connectivity between the municipality and province, recently received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission.
According to State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company, this project will bolster inter-provincial electricity support and strengthen the connectivity between the State Grid and the Southern Power Grid. It will also improve emergency response capabilities and ensure a secure and reliable power supply that is crucial for the economic and social development of both regions. Additionally, it will boost the use of renewable energy and enable flexible transactions in the national electricity market to help optimize energy resources on a large scale.
Construction is set to begin at the end of this year, with a projected dynamic investment of 4.95 billion yuan ($695 million).
The project was initially outlined in December 2023 as an advanced reserve project during the mid-term adjustments of the nation's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). It includes building a flexible DC converter station in Chongqing with a converter capacity of 3 million kilowatts and a line extending 265 kilometers.
