Expert: Chinese modernization offers valuable insights for the Global South
The Global South Modernization Forum was held in Beijing on Nov 21, bringing together Chinese and international experts and scholars to discuss and exchange views on key theoretical and practical issues related to the modernization of Global South countries.
During the forum, the Award for Research & Practice in Global Development was presented to recognize researchers and practitioners who have made outstanding contributions to global development.
Among the four winners, Pablo Vommaro, executive director of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, emphasized that this is a pivotal moment for the Global South to raise its voice and claim its place in global affairs.
He highlighted China's modernization as an important example — one that extends beyond technological and economic growth to focus on people's well-being, environmental sustainability, poverty reduction and building a more equitable world. Vommaro noted that countries in the Global South, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, have much to learn from China's experience.
