Double Ninth Festival celebrated with traditional opera
A two-day cultural event was held at the Shunyi Grand Theatre from Monday to celebrate the Double Ninth Festival. The program featured the popular Yueju Opera film Five Daughters Celebrating a Grand Birthday and the comedy All's Well That Ends Well, highlighting traditional virtues of filial piety and family harmony.
Five Daughters Celebrating a Grand Birthday depicted the Yang family's decline from wealth, emphasizing family duty and moral challenges. The vivid performances and expressive singing drew strong applause, particularly from older audience members who resonated with its themes of gratitude and filial devotion.
All's Well That Ends Well, adapted from The Unkind Sister-in-Law, offered a lighthearted take on family life and reconciliation. Lively acting, witty dialogue, and creative staging, including playful portrayals of farm animals, entertained and engaged the audience throughout.
More than 1,000 residents attended the performances, with both long-time opera enthusiasts and younger spectators filling the theater. The event was praised for bringing traditional art closer to the community and for promoting moral values through classic performances.
