Acting President U Myint Swe dies at 74
Myanmar's acting President U Myint Swe died on Thursday at the age of 74, the National Defense and Security Council said. His funeral will be held at the state level, but the date has not been disclosed, the council said. Earlier this week, the council said U Myint Swe had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and other related neurological conditions. Since July 24, he had been receiving intensive care at No 2 Defence Services General Hospital in the capital, Nay Pyi Daw, it said. The acting president had been on medical leave since July last year, and transferred duties to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing since then.

Thailand-Cambodia peace pact extended
Thailand and Cambodia agreed on Thursday to extend a ceasefire deal that followed five days of deadly hostilities along their border last month. The deal dictated a ceasefire, followed by a meeting of rival regional commanders, before defense officials held three days of talks in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur that concluded with a joint statement on Thursday. "Both sides agree to a ceasefire involving all types of weapons, including attacks on civilians and civilian objects and military objectives of either side, in all cases and all areas," the statement said. "This agreement must not be violated under any circumstances."

Karol Nawrocki sworn in as president
Karol Nawrocki was sworn in as president of the Republic of Poland on Wednesday after delivering his inaugural address, formally beginning his five-year term. In the address, Nawrocki announced that his administration would focus on a program of balanced and sustainable development for Poland, known as Plan 21. He pledged to make Poland a country of transformative projects, including advancing the Central Communication Port, which involves building a new international airport, as well as the development of national highways and ports.
