Xi's speech at ecological, environmental protection conference published

A speech delivered by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at a national conference on ecological and environmental protection on July 17, 2023, is published on Friday.

The speech by Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, is published in this year's 15th issue of the Qiushi Journal, the flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.

Top legislator highlights advancing trade cooperation with Switzerland

China's top legislator Zhao Leji has expressed the nation's willingness to work with Switzerland to advance negotiations on an upgrade of the bilateral free-trade agreement and promote high-quality cooperation in the financial sector, during an official goodwill visit to Switzerland from Monday to Thursday.

Zhao, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, held separate meetings with Swiss National Council President Maja Riniker and President of the Council of States of Switzerland Andrea Caroni.

Switzerland was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China, Zhao noted.

Zhao said that the two countries have become a model of cooperation between nations with different social systems, at different stages of development, and of varying sizes.

China stands ready to work with Switzerland to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and promote the high-level development of the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership, he said.

Zhao also said that bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Switzerland, the first European country to sign a free-trade agreement with China, has grown rapidly. Swiss-invested institutions are welcome to expand their investment in China, he said.
