Liuyang fireworks ignite Hunan's night economy

This summer, Liuyang in Hunan province has set the night sky ablaze with its creative fireworks displays, captivating numerous tourists.

Known as the hometown of fireworks in China, Liuyang, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Changsha, has been integrating its fireworks and cultural tourism industries. Its efforts resulted in a night economy on the upward swing.

In the first half of this year, the city has held 26 fireworks shows, attracting more than 1.5 million tourists and driving consumption by nearly 4 billion yuan ($556 million).

According to data from Changsha Customs, the export value of fireworks and firecrackers from Hunan reached 2.46 billion yuan in the first half of 2025, an increase of 26.5 percent compared with the same period the previous year, accounting for 59.3 percent of the total value of fireworks exports in the country. Among them, Changsha's exports account for over 90 percent of the province's total.
