China, US hold 'candid' talks

China and the United States on Tuesday agreed to push for an extension of the deadline of their tariff pause after two days of consultation between delegations from both sides in Stockholm, Sweden.
Li Chenggang, China international trade representative with the Ministry of Commerce, said during a press briefing that according to the consensus reached between China and the US, both sides will continue to push for a continued extension of the pause on the 24 percent "reciprocal tariffs" of the US side as well as the countermeasures on the Chinese side.
Li said over the past one and a half days of discussion, the economic and trade delegations of both sides followed the important consensus reached by the two leaders in their phone call on June 5, and have made candid, in-depth, and constructive exchanges.
During the meeting, both sides held comprehensive discussions on their respective macroeconomies, and recognized implementation of consensus reached during previous talks in Geneva and London.
Li said both sides are fully aware of the importance of safeguarding stable and sound China-US trade and economic relations, and the economic and trade teams from both sides agreed to continue to maintain close contact on key issues of mutual interest.
