An assortment of robots will provide delivery, instant shopping, security, and cheerleading services in August at the 12th World Games in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.

The World Games, organized by the International World Games Association, is a multi-sport event held every four years in the year following the Summer Olympics. It primarily features sports not seen in the Olympic Games.

A bipedal humanoid robot named Tangpa, which stands at about one meter tall and weighs around 30 kilograms, is set to become a cheerleading squad member to perform group dances with human performers.

Tian Min, head of brand promotion at Chengdu Xingjin Humanoid Robot Technology, the robot's developer, said Tangpa is equipped with a 19-inch screen and a head with an industry-leading six degrees of freedom — the number of independent movements it can perform, which endows it with human-like expressiveness.
