China urges stronger cooperation with US

Beijing expressed hope on Wednesday that the United States would work with China to strengthen cooperation based on equality, respect and mutual benefit to drive the stable, healthy and sustainable development of bilateral relations after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he would meet with Chinese officials in Stockholm next week.
Bessent told a media outlet on Tuesday that the meetings with Chinese officials would take place next Monday and Tuesday, when they would discuss an extension to the deadline for negotiating a trade deal between the two countries.
"China's position on economic and trade issues has always been consistent and clear," Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told reporters on Wednesday.
Guo said he hoped that the US can work together with China to implement the important consensus reached between leaders of the two countries, leverage the role of the China-US economic and trade negotiation mechanism, as well as enhance consensus through dialogue to reduce misunderstandings and enhance cooperation.
