English translations of books on China's history launched at fair


English translations of New Outline of General History of China and A Concise History of Chinese Civilization were launched at the 31st Beijing International Book Fair on Wednesday.
In his speech, Li Guoqiang, associate dean of the Chinese Academy of History, said that the two books attempt to lead readers into the long river of history, allowing them to perceive the vicissitudes of the past and understand the social changes through a profound and straightforward narrative style.
Through the translation of these two works, people around the world can understand Chinese history and civilization, comprehend Chinese history and civilization, bridge different civilizations, inject strong impetus into the exchange and mutual learning of human civilizations, he said.
Zhao Jianying, president of the China Social Sciences Press, said that the two books are based on the latest achievements in historical research and archaeological discoveries in the new era, and transform the latest historical research results into concise reader-friendly and theoretical primers.
They present the objective and real Chinese history from different perspectives such as politics, economics, culture, and ethnicity, elucidating the profound spiritual values and historical culture of the Chinese nation, he said.
Currently, the two books have been signed for translation into 14 languages, including English, French, Russian, Spanish, Kazakh, Bengali, Vietnamese and Sinhala.
