He noted that, although Chinese and Colombian culinary cultures are quite different, he still finds flavors from home in Chinese cuisine. For example, hongshaorou, or red-braised pork, reminds him of Colombia's chicharrón, and jiaozi, or dumplings, are surprisingly similar to empanadas.
