The inaugural Shanghai International Contemporary Photo Festival has turned the metropolis into an art museum "without walls", presenting a dozen exhibitions at galleries, cultural venues and other landmark sites of Shanghai.

The event, organized by Meta Media, was opened by this year's PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, a platform for contemporary photography.

Also lined up are exhibitions of artists and photographs from distinguished collectors to examine the narrative power of images, particularly in an age of highly developed technology and voices being made and heard more through visual forms.
