Metal Odyssey, the winning project of the 4th edition of the Curatorial Award for Photography and Moving Image at the 2024 Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival, has transformed into a full exhibition, currently on display at the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in Beijing.

Co-curated by Yi-Ning Lin and Chia-Shin Yang, who is one of the featured artists, the exhibition explores the trauma and memories associated with illness while highlighting the heartwarming support among family members. It showcases the works of Yang and Jess Ching-Wa Lau.

According to the curators, "metal" in the exhibition title refers to medical instruments, which are authoritative tools in illness diagnosis. It also draws an analogy to Homer's epic "Odyssey," representing a challenging, lengthy and perilous journey of healing from illness while symbolizing return, wisdom, courage, and resilience.
