DP World Tour makes Hainan debut

The 72-hole tournament is the first DP World Tour stop in Hainan. The champion will be crowned Sunday and claim a signature volcanic rock trophy.

The DP World Tour is Europe's premier men's golf circuit. It reinforced its commitment to promoting the sport in China. "China is a key market," said Ben Cowen, the tour's chief tournament and operations officer, at a Wednesday press conference. He highlighted the nation's rising talent, from trailblazer Zhang Lianwei - China's first DP World Tour winner in 2003 - to current stars Wu Ashun and Li Haotong.
