Echoing Through the Ages, an exhibition that opened at the National Museum of China on Tuesday, celebrates the combined efforts of archaeologists, historians, and artists to shed light on the prehistory of Hunan province, one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization.

In 2022, a group of ink painters based in the province spent almost a year visiting major Paleolithic and Neolithic archaeological sites, where they learned from historians what still remains to be decoded about early human activity in Hunan.
