This Saturday marked the second celebration day for World Migratory Bird Day this year. Aimed at calling for urgent and sustained action to protect migratory birds and the insects crucial to their survival, this year's theme "Protecting Insects, Protecting Birds", emphasized on the critical role insects play in many aspects of migratory bird life with the intention of raising awareness about the alarming decline in insect population around the globe.

The State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company, relying on the framework of the "Green Power Ark" State Grid public welfare project, has been making efforts to fulfill its social responsibility. To promote biodiversity conservation, staff members engaged in a series of World Migratory Bird Day activities at "power charity" supermarkets, wetlands, residential communities and many other locations. Through lectures and other means, they educated the public on migratory bird conservation, enhancing their awareness of biodiversity conservation.

Meanwhile, the first batch of wetland ecological restoration areas were announced in Zhejiang province, with the Jianyang Lake wetland ecological restoration area in Taizhou city on the list. During restoration works at Jianyang Lake the ground was insufficient for the construction of the foundations of 10 kilovolt lines, resulting in a safety hazard for wetland bird species.

In response, the construction team replaced the 12-meter poles of the Shanghu secondary line spanning 400 meters across the wetland with 15-meter poles, in a bid to avoid threatening the survival of bird species in the wetland.

Considering that birds often nest and breed on power transmission lines making them susceptible to injuries and often leading to power outages and faults, the construction team replaced the entire 400-meter bare wire with insulated wire. This bird-protection measure effectively highlighted the State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Company's practices and significant achievements in wetland protection and restoration.

With the progress of protection measures such as the Jianyang Lake ecological restoration and digital monitoring, more bird species have found a home at the lake. The company said it would continuously support the harmonious coexistence of the local people and wildlife in a safe, green and low-carbon manner. The company pledged to integrate biodiversity conservation into various aspects of grid construction and operation to build an eco-friendly and nature-benefiting grid. The company will continue to improve and optimize biodiversity conservation measures and solutions, allowing more people to enjoy the beauty of Taizhou and nature, it said.
