New energy car sales surge in August
China's new energy passenger vehicle market continued to see robust growth in August, with retail sales reaching 1.027 million units, up 43 percent year-on-year and up 17 percent from July, according to the China Passenger Car Association. In August, production of new energy passenger vehicles reached 1.051 million units, up 33 percent year-on-year.
Renminbi weakens against greenback
The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 147 pips to 7.1136 against the US dollar on Tuesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.
