Initiated by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in 2011, the International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music has nurtured many conducting talents over the years. For the 4th edition of the competition, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra continued to organize the global event to further the objectives of promoting Chinese orchestral music, enhancing artistic exchange and bridging the geographical divide.

"Over a decade ago, I saw that that great achievements were being made in the composition and performance of music for large Chinese orchestras, as well as improvements and reforms to instruments," said Professor Yan Huichang, artistic director and principal conductor for life of the HKCO.
