Jiangxi links more rural areas by rail

Jiangxi province is connecting its railway network to more rural areas. State-owned China Railway 24th Bureau Group Corp said its builders dug through the Shiwuzhang No 3 Tunnel on the Ruijin-Meizhou Railway on Friday. Among the 20 tunnels on the railway line, this is the first completed tunnel that spans longer than 3 kilometers, laying the foundation for future tunneling projects through mountainous regions in Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces. Once completed, the railway will link Xunwu and Anyuan counties with the wider network, CR24G said.

Shanghai H1 foreign trade hits record

China's financial hub Shanghai saw its foreign trade touch a record high of 2.1 trillion yuan ($294.44 billion) in the first half of 2024, Shanghai Customs said. During the period, Shanghai's exports rose 1.8 percent year-on-year to 857.49 billion yuan, while imports decreased 0.2 percent to 1.24 trillion yuan. In the first half, Shanghai's exports of mechanical and electrical products increased 0.8 percent year-on-year to 591.25 billion yuan, accounting for 69 percent of the city's total export value. Its exports of ships jumped by 92.3 percent year-on-year to 31.89 billion yuan.

China cuts retail prices of gasoline, diesel

China cut the retail prices of gasoline and diesel on Friday, based on recent changes in international oil prices. Gasoline prices were reduced by 145 yuan ($20.33) per metric ton and diesel prices by 140 yuan per ton, the National Development and Reform Commission said. Under the current pricing mechanism, prices of refined oil products are adjusted in accordance with changes in international crude oil prices.
