One-China principle a universally recognized norm
Top legislator Zhao Leji said on Wednesday the Taiwan question is at the core of China's core interests and called for continuous commitment to the one-China principle, as he met in Beijing with Silvia Garcia, president of the Central American Parliament.
Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said the decision by the Central American Parliament last year to revoke the "permanent observer status" of the Taiwan region and include the NPC of China as its permanent observer once again proved the one-China principle is a universally recognized norm of the international community.
Garcia and members of the delegation said the Central American Parliament adheres to the one-China principle and supports China's national reunification. It is also willing to learn from China's development achievements and help promote South-South cooperation, they said.
Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People' s Political Consultative Conference, also met with Garcia on Wednesday.
Xi's special representative to visit Vietnam for mourning
As a special representative of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping, China's top political adviser Wang Huning will go to Vietnam to mourn the passing of Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, a spokesman for the International Department of the CPC Central Committee announced on Wednesday.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, will lead a CPC delegation to participate in the mourning from Thursday to Friday in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, said Hu Zhaoming, the spokesman.
Deeper understanding of guiding principles stressed
A senior official of the Communist Party of China emphasized on Wednesday the importance of enabling the whole Party and nation to better understand and implement the key decisions adopted at the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.
Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted the significance of fostering a deeper understanding of the plenary session's guiding principles, as well as the plenum's major significance and far-reaching historical implications.
He made the point at a meeting in Beijing as part of an outreach campaign launched by the CPC Central Committee to enable Party members, officials and the people to better understand key messages from the plenary session, which was held last week in Beijing.
Sino-Russian ties in investment, energy bolstered
China stands ready to work with Russia to keep improving cooperation in investment and energy to better achieve mutually beneficial and win-win results as well as common development, Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang said during his visit to Russia from Sunday to Tuesday.
Ding held talks on Monday with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, and the two co-chaired the 11th meeting of the China-Russia Investment Cooperation Committee. Ding also met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, and they co-chaired the 21st meeting of the China-Russia Energy Cooperation Committee on Tuesday.
When co-chairing the two meetings, Ding called for the two sides to promote cooperation on key projects, create a favorable investment environment and strengthen strategic coordination in global energy governance.
He also attended the opening ceremony of the sixth China-Russia Energy Business Forum in Moscow on Tuesday.
Overseas companies welcomed to develop in country
China will further expand high-standard opening-up, and welcomes foreign companies to invest in and achieve better development in China, Vice-President Han Zheng said on Wednesday.
China will continue to foster a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized business environment, Han said at a meeting in Marseille, France, with Rodolphe Saade, chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, a French shipping and logistics company.
Saade said the company looks forward to carrying out close cooperation with Chinese partners in areas including energy transformation, artificial intelligence and robot development and utilization.
Mayor of Marseille Benoit Payan, who also attended the meeting, said that Marseille is willing to play its role as a bridge to deepen France-China ties.
