6 dead, 3 injured in workshop collapse
Six people died and three others were injured after a steel-structure workshop collapsed on Saturday in Southwest China's Guizhou province, local authorities said. The accident occurred at around midday in Xishui county, Zunyi. The three injured are being treated in hospital. Relief work and an investigation into the accident are underway.
Jiangxi road accident probe report released
A report on the investigation of a major road accident in Jiangxi province earlier this year was released on Saturday. The accident took place on Jan 8 in Nanchang county when a truck hit a funeral procession, killing 20 people and injuring 19 others. According to the investigation team from the Jiangxi provincial government, the heavily overloaded truck was speeding when it encountered the funeral procession and people were burning paper money and setting off firecrackers that generated smoke, impairing visibility.
2.1m enumerators for economic census
China will dispatch some 2.1 million enumerators for the on-site registration of its national economic census starting on Jan 1, an official said on Friday. The census workers will go into businesses and communities to complete data collection and registration in 1.16 million census areas over nearly four months, Kang Yi, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, said at a publicity event for the census.
