During the 2026 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, China Daily reporter Yan An met two young innovators working on practical tools to cope with extreme weather worsened by a powerful El Nino event.
The pair shared two easy-to-adopt tech solutions: digital simulation tools that forecast weather risks in cities, and AI-powered smart soil monitors to alert farmers to dry conditions and guide water use.
Having witnessed recurring extreme weather events, they remain optimistic. They believe people need not live in fear, as youth innovation and community efforts can turn small solutions into meaningful climate progress.
