Trump to face court over election charges
Former US president Donald Trump is due to appear in federal court on Thursday to answer charges that he sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election. An indictment on Tuesday from Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith charges Trump with four felony counts related to his efforts to undo the presidential election in the run-up to the Jan 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. The charges could lead to a yearslong prison sentence in the event of a conviction.

Boat collapse in Lake Victoria leaves 20 dead
Twenty people died when a boat capsized in Ugandan waters on Lake Victoria on Wednesday morning, police said as rescuers and residents searched for survivors. "The cause of (the) accident is attributed to overloading and bad weather," police said.

Trudeau, wife separate after 18 yrs of marriage
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie, are separating after 18 years of marriage. The two said in statements posted on Instagram that they made the decision after "many meaningful and difficult conversations". A statement from the prime minister's office said they both have signed a legal separation agreement. Trudeau was sworn into office in 2015. Sophie is a former model and TV host.
