China's largest NEV maker BYD launched a new version of its Qin Plus EV on Friday.

The 2023 champion version, available in six variants, is expected to take on gasoline vehicle rivals, said the Shenzhen-headquartered carmaker.

BYD said the new version has seen a lot of improvements compared with its predecessor.

The champion version is built based on the latest 3.0 technologies of its platform.

Its powertrain is 10 percent smaller and lighter than its predecessor but its efficiency can reach 89 percent.

In terms of performance, the model can generate a maximum output of 150 kW and has a driving range up to 610 km on one charge thanks to BYD's blade-shaped batteries.

BYD's Qin is one of the most popular sedans in the Chinese market, according to the China Passenger Car Association.

Last month, the model topped the list with 30,540 units sold, up 24.6 percent year-on-year, outselling Nissan's Sylphy and Volkswagen's Lavida.

BYD aims to sell at least 3 million vehicles this year, up from 1.86 million units in 2022, according to Chairman Wang Chuanfu.
